He and his wife, Jane, were the first people baptized in Pennsylvania. They joined the Baptists who fled from Wales in 1686, and settled up the Pennypack, beyond Bustletown (Pa) where they started the Pennypack Meeting, the mother church for all Baptists in Eastern Pennsylvania." This indenture made the sixth day of January in the twelfth year of the reign of our sovereign Lady Ann Queen of Great Britain etc and in the year of our Lord 1713 between Joseph Asheton of Lower Dublin Township in the county of Phila in the province of Penna carpenter Hannah his wife of the one part and John Holme of the sd township miller of the other part.
Whereas Wm Penn proprietary & governor of the sd province by a certain patent under his hand & seal of the province for the consideration therein mentioned did grant & convey unto Robert Turner purchaser a certain tract of land called by the name of Wheatland situate in the sd county beginning at a corner marked white oak standing by the land of Saml Claridge thence north west by land then vacant one hundred sixty seven perches to a corner marked red oak thence south near by land of Joseph Fisher four hundred & eighty perches to a marked white oak thence south east one hundred sixty seven perches to a marked stake thence north east by the land of Saml Claridge four hundred & eighty perches to the first mentioned white oak containing five hundred acres to hold to him the sd Robert Turner his heirs an assigns forever yielding & paying therefore unto the sd prop his heirs & successors upon the first day of the first month in every year one English silver six pence or value thereof in coin currant as in & by the sd recited patent being date the 4th month 1684 recorded in the rolls office at Phila the 29th 5th mo. 1684 may appear.
And whereas by one indenture bearing date the 25th of the first month 169_ made between the sd Robert Turner of the one part and sd Joseph Asheton by the name of Joseph Ashton Jr of the aforesd county & province yeoman of the other part he the sd Robert Turner for the consideration therein mentioned did grant & convey unto the sd Joseph Ashton all that the sd tract of land by the bounds thereof as in the sd indenture mentioned situate & limited as aforesd containing five hundred acres (were the same more or less) to hold to him the sd Joseph Ashton his heirs & assigns forever under the yearly rent aforesd as in & by the sd recited indenture acknowledged in open court at Phila the 9th day of the 4th mo 16__ relation being thereunto had may more at large appear and
Whereas the sd Joseph Ashton by a certain inde__ment written on the back side of the last recited indenture for the consideration therein mentioned did grant unto Joseph Ashton Sen late of Dublin Township aforesd yeoman decd father of the sd Joseph Ashton party hereto the sd five hundred of land to hold to him the sd Joseph Ashton Sen his heirs & assigns forever as __ & by the sd recited indenture bearing date the tenth day of December 1703 & likewise acknowledged in court relation being thereunto had may appear.
