Power Burying Ground
Power Burying Ground
Great Road Littleton Middlesex County Massachusetts USA Cemetery notes and/or description: Power Family Cemetery on the Walter Power farm. Several generations were buried here before the farm went out of family hands and was purchased by the Reed brothers. To the horror of the community, the Reeds plowed over the old burying ground in 1850, using the surviving tombstones to build a fence and leaving no trace of the graves. There was no law at that time about desecrating graves - there is now. The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as "LIT.801 Powers-Reed Burying Ground".

Hand written text on the back. Who wrote it TBD. "It was built by my grandfather in 1903 at a cost of $8000.00." The date on the front and the text on the back was written by Mom's half brother, Fleet. When it was sold for the $185,000.00 that was the last time our family owned it. I am unsure when that was. It later sold for about $380,000 in the early 90's I think. I went through the house around that time, and it was great. I have pictures of that. And a video.' by Elizabeth Parkhurst Mendoza 1/23/2012
